Oil changes are recommended every 3 months or 3,000 miles. The most common service recommendation is every 3,000 miles or every three months, which 98 percent of National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence-certified master technicians recommend. The recommendation includes driving in stop-and-go traffic, driving less than four miles regularly and driving in extreme weather conditions. Always consider your extended warranty first and your owner’s manual second (they are usually different) when you consider how often to service your vehicle. Certified mechanics recommend never traveling more than 7,500 miles between oil changes due to variations in fuel and air contaminants and conditions that oil warning systems and driving habits cannot anticipate.
